WEEZER

Weezer’s 30 year celebration of the Blue Album: Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour Review

Weezer did it again, consistently raising the bar for each tour they do. Last year's tour theme was an indie rock road trip and this year they outdid themselves with an intergalactic space tour, better known as the Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour.

The whole performance was based on the narrative that Weezer needed to travel within space to reach the Blue Planet. The performance starts off with the Blue Voyage Takeoff which consists of a 5 minute video countdown. Once the countdown hits zero Weezer’s huge spaceship is lifted into the air which reveals all 4 members standing reporting for duty. They kicked off the show with Anonymous, a hit song from the Everything Will Be Alright album and transitioned to one of my favorite songs from the album, Return to Ithaka. Within this section of the performance, Weezer played songs from the Red and Green album.

On their intergalactic space route to the Blue Planet they ran into the Pinkerton Asteroid Belt and crashed onto another planet. This segwayed Weezer to play their top hits from the Pinkerton album while they waited for their spaceship to get fixed.

A few songs later the spaceship was fixed and we finally arrived at the part of the Voyage that was highly anticipated. It was officially time to hear everyone's favorite Weezer album, the Blue Album. With songs like My Name is Jonas, Buddy Holly, Undone and Say It Ain’t So the crowd was singing along to every word. The Blue Voyage created a sense of nostalgia as if we were traveling through space, experiencing the great moments of Weezer's legacy.
